Michael Flynn's racist, sexist, conspiracy theory-spouting son is new focus of Russia investigation

Michael G. Flynn, son of former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn, is now a focus of the Russia investigation headed by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The inquiry into Flynn is focused at least in part on his work with his father’s lobbying firm, Flynn Intel Group, three current and former officials said. It’s unclear when the focus on Flynn began.

Mueller’s team has already locked in on Paul Manafort’s son-in-law, Jeffrey Yohai. And of course, Mueller is solidly focused on both Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner over their meeting with Russian representatives at Trump Tower, as well as their involvement in multiple Russian-financed real estate deals. But Flynn the younger has a special reason to be worried, as Robert Mueller’s team put a new focus on social media and how it was used to spread Russian propaganda.

Because no one was more engaged in spreading false narratives than Michael G. Flynn.

That was Flynn’s posting after a man showed up with a rifle at Comet Ping Pong. And it’s far from the only ugly story Flynn spread.

Flynn’s son, Michael G. Flynn, shared stories alleging top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin had a connection to the Muslim Brotherhood, pushed a conspiracy theory that Sen. Marco Rubio was a closeted homosexual who abused cocaine, and repeatedly used expletives to attack Trump’s political opponents.

Flynn’s postings were so bad, even the Trump regime had to tell him bye in advance of his father’s departure.

[Michael G. Flynn] showed no restraint in the weeks before he was fired, regularly posting on Twitter about conspiracy theories involving Mrs. Clinton and her campaign staff well after the election.

He continued to push his support for the fake news about Comet Ping Pong after his messages on Twitter about Sunday’s episode began attracting widespread attention. It was not until shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday that he went silent on Twitter.

In one of the last messages he posted, he shared a post from another Twitter user who sought to spread a conspiracy theory that sprang up on the right-wing fringes after the shooting: that the suspect arrested at Comet Ping Pong, Edgar M. Welch, 28, of Salisbury, N.C., was actually an actor, and that the episode was a hoax cooked up to discredit the claim of a sex trafficking ring at the restaurant.

There was no conspiracy theory too low for Little Flynn. Mueller’s focus on Flynn senior’s business and the endless list of propaganda sourced from Russian state media gives the special counsel two directions to go after the former general’s son.

Michael G. Flynn’s status as a subject of the Russia investigation widens the publicly known scope of the probe. NBC News has reported that those under investigation have included the elder Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Others under scrutiny by Special Counsel Robert Mueller include Trump campaign ally Carter Page, Trump son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner and President Trump’s son, Donald Jr.

Bringing in MIchael G. Flynn and Jeffrey Yohai along with Kushner and Trump Jr. is another sign of Mueller’s effort to build a case where there are plenty of opportunities for the small players to spill what they know about the big fish.

The former FBI director leading the probe into the Trump campaign’s possible ties to Russia is taking a page from the playbook federal prosecutors have used for decades in criminal investigations, from white-collar fraud to mob racketeering:

Follow the money. Start small and work up. See who will “flip” and testify against higher-ups by pursuing charges such as tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

One other thing suggested by the attention Mueller is giving Michael G. Flynn: former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn may not be cooperating as fully as some rumors have suggested. If the senior Flynn is still refusing to answer questions, or if Mueller simply feels that the ex-general is holding out on some vital information, bringing down the heat on the younger Flynn provides additional leverage for the investigation.

And honestly, if there’s anyone who should sweating, it’s Michael G. Flynn.

The son of top Donald Trump adviser and retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn regularly shares conspiracy theories, expletive-filled posts, and racially insensitive sentiments on Twitter and Facebook, a CNN KFile review of his social media presence reveals.

“Racially insensitive” means things like …

“Unfortunately, only reason minorities voted for BO is the color of his skin and NOT for the issues….#Election2012”

And before the election, Flynn did claim the Russians had secret videotapes—only not of Trump.

He also posted a unfounded story claiming hackers would release a video of former President Bill Clinton raping a teenage girl.

In other words, the guy is a peach. And deserving of every ounce of pressure Mueller can apply.
